Richard Alfred Newell, known professionally as King Biscuit Boy, was born on March 9, 1944, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He began his musical journey at a young age, purchasing his first harmonica at 12. Newell started his career playing with The Barons from 1961 to 1965, followed by stints with The Mid-Knights and And Many Others, Ronnie Hawkins' backing band. In 1970, after Hawkins disbanded the group, Newell formed Crowbar and released Official Music. He then embarked on a solo career, signing with Paramount/Epic. Notable collaborations include performances with Muddy Waters, Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin, Allen Toussaint, and The Meters. His single "New Orleans" reached number 68 in Canada in September 1975. Newell's last album, Two Hound Blues, was released in early 2003 with Sonny Del-Rio. He passed away on January 5, 2003, at his home in Hamilton, Ontario.
