Joseph Kim Mitchell was born on 10â¯Julyâ¯1952 in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, and became a singer and guitarist. After playing in local bands, he coâfounded Maxâ¯Webster, where he served as lead vocalist and guitarist until the group disbanded in 1982. Joseph Kim Mitchellâs solo debut arrived that same year with the selfâtitled EP Kimâ¯Mitchell, followed by the single "Miss Demeanor" in 1982. His breakthrough came with the 1984 single "Goâ¯Forâ¯Soda", which peaked at Numberâ¯86 on the U.S. Billboard Hotâ¯100 and achieved top twenty status in Canada. The album Akimboâ¯Alogo (1984) contained the hit "Lagerâ¯Andâ¯Ale", while the 1986 release Shakin'â¯Likeâ¯Aâ¯Humanâ¯Being produced the Canadian chartâtopper "Patioâ¯Lanterns", solidifying his solo reputation. Subsequent albums Rockland (1989), Auralâ¯Fixations (1992), Itch (1994), and Kimosabe (1999) expanded his catalog, and the 2007 studio effort Ain'tâ¯Lifeâ¯Amazing added to his discography. Joseph Kim Mitchell earned Juno Awards in 1983 for Most Promising Male Vocalist and in 1987 for Album of the Year with Shakin'â¯Likeâ¯Aâ¯Humanâ¯Being. He was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2020, with the ceremony held in 2021.
