Aerosmith, an American hardârock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1970, emerged from the collaboration of Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, Brad Whitford, and Rick Dufay, with Steven Tyler as the lead vocalist and Joe Perry on lead guitar. Their early exposure came through local venues and a brief stint with the label T Records, where they released their debut single "Dream On" in 1973, establishing a foundation for their subsequent work. The bandâs first studio effort, Aerosmith, arrived on 13 January 1973, followed by Get Your Wings on 3 March 1974, and Toys in the Attic on 8 April 1975, the latter achieving a peak of number 9 on the Billboard 200 and spawning the hit "Sweet Emotion" in 1975. Draw the Line (1977) and Rocks (1976) continued their ascent, with Draw the Line reaching number 3 on the UK Albums Chart. In 1979, Night in the Ruts was released, but the bandâs commercial momentum surged with Permanent Vacation (18 August 1987), which produced the chartâtopper "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)" and revitalized their presence. The 1989 release Pump yielded the topâ10 single "Love In an Elevator" and earned the group a Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. Subsequent albums Get a Grip (20 April 1993) and Nine Lives (18 March 1997) maintained their chart success, with "I Don't Want to Miss A Thing" (14 September 1998) reaching number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The early 2000s saw Just Push Play (6 March 2001) and Honkin' on Bobo (30 March 2004) amid a prolific touring schedule, including the 2004 Rock in a Hard Place tour. The band continued to release compilations such as Classic Aerosmith (18 August 2003) and Greatest Hits (18 August 2023), preserving their legacy. In 2014, they issued Baying at the Moon, and in 2015, A Brand New Song and Dance was released, reflecting their enduring relevance. Subsequent releases include One More Time (21 November 2025) EP, featuring a collaboration with Yungblud, and the single "My Only Angel" (19 September 2025). Aerosmithâs career is marked by numerous Billboard chart entries, multiple platinum certifications, and two Grammy Awards, underscoring their influence in hard rock and their status as a commercially successful American band of the past five decades.
