Cymbals Eat Guitars were an American indie rock band from Staten Island, New York. Formed in 2007 by guitarist Joseph D'Agostino and drummer Matthew Miller, they initially included Neil Berenholz on bass, Matt Cohen on guitar, and Daniel Baer on keyboards. Their debut album, Why There Are Mountains (2009), gained significant attention when it was featured in Pitchfork's Best New Music list, receiving an 8.3/10 rating. They toured extensively, opening for acts like The Flaming Lips and performing at festivals such as the College Music Journal and Pitchfork Music Festival. In 2011, they released their second album, Lenses Alien (2011), under Barsuk Records. Following lineup changes and the release of LOSE (2014) and Pretty Years (2016), Cymbals Eat Guitars disbanded in late 2017.
