Biography

Canadian singer and guitarist Brian King and drummer David Prowse created Japandroids when they were students in western Canada in 2006. Delivering an unvarnished mix of indie rock and garage rock influences they made a couple of promotional recordings and gained national attention with their debut album Post-Nothing in 2009. They toured extensively and their second album Celebration Rock arned a nomination in Canada's Juno Awards for Alternative Album of the Year in 2012. Citing exhaustion, they went silent in 2013 to re-emerge in 2017 with Near to the Wild Heart of Life. In January 2018 they announced a tour that was to take their vibrant live show to festivals including Shaky Knees in Atlanta and Governors Ball in New York and concerts with fellow Canadian rockers Wolf Parade across Canada and America, including a show at Toronto's Massey Hall, recorded for a live album issued in 2020. Another hiatus followed before the release of Fate & Alcohol in 2024, which the members announced would be their final album, leading to their disbandment.
