Biography

Joël Constant Yobo spent his childhood in Siporex, a district of Yopougon in Abidjan. Following a difficult family financial situation, he dropped out of high school to help his family and devote himself to his passion: music. He made his debut as a DJ in a local maquis, solo under the name Kerozen, then as a duo under the name Boulevard DJ with Zephy Connor. Together, they began producing and made their mark with a hit, "La danse de la moto", which caused a sensation in the world of coupé-décalé. After scouring the major venues for the style in Côte d'Ivoire, including the maquis of rue princesse, the duo split up and Kerozen pursued his artistic career on his own. Settled in Switzerland, he performed in the country's discotheques and produced tracks with minor impact. A return to Côte d'Ivoire in 2010, and a meeting with Emma Dobré, prompted him to return to his compositions. In 2016, he released "Mon heure a sonné", which caused a sensation in the country and re-established Kerozen as a major coupé-décalé producer. With "Le temps" (2017), "Marijo" (2017) and "La victoire" (2018), Kerozen produced a string of outstanding tracks, winning over his audience. Winner of several awards, including Best Male Artist at the Africa Talent Awards in 2017 and Best West African Artist at the Kundé Awards in 2019, Kerozen now ranks among the Ivorian figures of the style.
