Born on December 29, 1974 in Divo, southern Côte d'Ivoire, Aboubacar Doumbia grew up in a polygamous family of 38 children. At the age of 10, he began working weekends alongside school as a shoeshine boy, contributing to the family's income. His schooling came to a halt after the third grade, when his family's need for money forced him to move to Abidjan. The young Ivorian traveled to the United States and France, lived for a time in Switzerland, and gradually became a successful musician under the stage name Abou Nidal de Genève (sometimes Abou Nidal or Abou Nidal 2 Geneve). With a pseudonym that directly echoes his experience abroad, the musician became part of the flourishing coupé-décalé scene of the 2000s. At the same time as the Parisian precursors of the La Jet Set collective led by Douk Saga, Abou Nidal 2 Genève became one of the first figures of the movement, buoyed by his single and concept "La chaussure qui parle" (The Talking Shoe ) released in 2006. He released a two-track CD the following year, Les chaussures qui parlent (2007), followed by C'est le moment du dialogue direct! (2009), featuring three new compositions. From the 2010s onwards, the Ivorian singer became known for his humanitarian commitment to various causes, in particular youth work, directly influenced by his personal history. In 2013, he unveiled the song "Yaya cassez-tête", which became a hit in Côte d'Ivoire, and set up his Abou Nidal Foundation in the wake of it. Abou Nidal 2 Genève then made a name for itself in 2017 with the Wara Tour, an itinerant project to promote youth education, symbolized by the song "Va à l'école!" (Go to school!). A recurring initiative over the years, the Ivorian singer makes news again during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, campaigning for the right gestures in the face of the virus with his song "Covid-19". He returned to the music scene in 2022 with a third album, Confirmation, still promoting coupé-décalé and making Abou Nidal an emblematic figure of the movement.
