Kenneth David Whiteley, known as Ken Whiteley, was born on April 30, 1951 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania. He began playing guitar at age twelve and started his music career performing folk music in the early 1970s. In 1965, he formed the Original Sloth Band with his older brother Chris Whiteley and clarinettist Tom Evens. The trio recorded three albums and performed at various festivals, including the Winnipeg Folk Festival. Whiteley's career expanded to include collaborations with acclaimed children's performer Raffi, recording and touring together. He also frequently performed with his niece, Jenny Whiteley, and nephew Daniel Whiteley. Whiteley has been recognized for his contributions to music, receiving a Genie Award in 2004 and being inducted into the Mariposa Festival Hall of Fame in 2008.
