Biography

Daryl Lynn Coley, born in Berkeley, California, in 1955, was an American singer known for his contributions to gospel, contemporary Christian, jazz, and pop music. He began singing at a young age and started his musical journey as a member of Helen Stephens and the Voices of Christ at 14. Coley's career took off when he joined the Edwin Hawkins Singers and collaborated with notable figures like James Cleveland and Tramaine Hawkins. His debut solo album Just Daryl was released in 1986 on First Epistle/Plumline Records and later re-released in 2006, featuring celebrated covers such as "II Chronicles" and was nominated for a Grammy Award. Coley's subsequent albums, including He's Right On Time: Live From Los Angeles (1990) and When the Music Stops (1992), achieved significant success on the gospel charts. He passed away in 2016 at the age of 60.
