Biography

Ken Sykora, born Charles Kenneth Sykora on April 13, 1923 in London, England, was an English jazz guitarist and radio presenter. He led his own band in the 1950s, influenced by Django Reinhardt, and appeared with notable bandleaders such as Ted Heath. Sykora was featured in the Melody Maker reader's poll for best British jazz guitarist from 1952 to 1956, winning it twice. He also hosted radio programs like Guitar Club and Be My Guest on BBC Radio, interviewing prominent figures such as Count Basie and Bing Crosby. In the 1970s, he moved to Scotland with his family and continued producing music programs for BBC Radio Scotland and Radio Clyde. Sykora passed away on March 7, 2006 in Blairmore. A documentary film about his life and career, The Man With the Jazz Guitar, was released posthumously in 2012.
