Scottish pop singer Kelly Marie was born Jacqueline McKinnon on October 16, 1957 in Paisley. She began performing young and enjoyed hits in France while still a teenager with her initial singles, âWhoâs That Lady with My Man?â, her first Number 1 anywhere in the world, and âHelp Meâ, both released in 1976. She embraced disco and scored a top 5 hit in South Africa and Australia with 1978âs âMake Love to Meâ, which represented her biggest break through to that point in an English language market. Her 1979 single âFeels Like Iâm in Loveâ failed initially, but the disco track slowly grew a substantial following, and when the song was re-released in 1980 it became the biggest smash of Marieâs career. It went to Number 1 in the UK, top 10 throughout Europe, and even hit Number 10 on the U.S. Dance chart. The success of the single led to a re-release of another old single, âLoving Just for Funâ, that reached Number 21 in the UK. âHot Loveâ reached Number 22 just three months later in February of 1981. One more minor hit, âLove Trialâ, followed in May, thus ending Marieâs run of chart success. She would continue to record through the 80s, even scoring a Number 2 hit in Denmark with 1988âs âStealing My Timeâ. A smattering of single were released in the 1990s, and in the 2000s she was a contestant on the competitive singing series Hit Me, Baby, One More Time.
