Biography

Real name Amanda Tapp, Amanda Lear was born in Saigon (now Hô-Chi Minh City) on June 18, 1939. A charmer, a glamorous seductress, blonde Amanda Lear has led a mysterious life ever since she became known as the muse of painter Salvador Dali. While doubts about her transexuality have long fueled rumors, the French singer was once crowned Europe's "Queen of Disco" with a string of hits including "Blood and Honey", "Queen of Chinatown " and "Follow Me" in 1976-1978. Her career and constant to-ing and fro-ing from eurodance to pop, from Italian chanson to international variety, made her a performer with a varied and unexpected style when she covered Elvis Presley songs on the album My Happiness (2014), after detours into dance on Brand New Love Affair (2009) and I Don't Like Disco (2012). Since then, Amanda Lear has also revealed herself as a "boulevard queen" in theater, thanks to her original spirit. The multi-faceted singer navigates different musical styles on the following albums Brief Encounters (2011), My Happiness (2014), Let Me Entertain You (2016) and Tuberose (2021). Between her various activities, she returned to music in 2025 with Looking Back.
