Karen Mason, born March 31, 1951 in New Orleans, Louisiana, is an American singer and actress. She graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle in 1976 and began her career as a "singing hostess" in Chicago. Mason's breakthrough came when she met pianist and composer Brian Lasser, with whom she collaborated until his death in 1992. She first appeared on Broadway in Play Me a Country Song in 1982. Notable roles include Norma Desmond in the Los Angeles production of Sunset Boulevard, Tanya in Mamma Mia!, Velma Von Tussle in Hairspray, and Madame Giry in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Love Never Dies. Mason has also performed extensively in cabaret, including at venues like Duplex Cabaret Theatre. Her albums include Not So Simply Broadway (1995) and And All That Jazz! (2025).
