Karel Francis Fialka, born in 1947 in Bengal, India, is a British singer-songwriter and producer. The son of a Czech father and a Scottish mother, Fialka initially worked as a poet and street artist in the United Kingdom before transitioning into music in the late 1970s. His breakthrough came with the single "The Eyes Have It" in 1980, which charted in the UK and is considered an early example of New Wave music. This success was followed by his debut album Still Life, which produced two additional singles but did not replicate the initial chart success. After a period of relative inactivity, Fialka released his second album Human Animal in 1987, featuring his most notable hit "Hey Matthew", which reached number 9 in the UK and entered the top 20 in Germany and Switzerland. The song critically examines the influence of television on children. Following the release of Film Noir in 2009, Fialka collaborated with Paul Roberts of Sniff 'n' the Tears on a folk album released in 1997. He continued to work as a songwriter, contributing to Roberts' 2001 re-release of Sniff 'n' The Tears and featuring Roberts as a guest vocalist on his own recordings.
