Biography
Juraj Galan, born in 1952 in Czechoslovakia, is a modern jazz guitarist and doctor. He began playing piano at age seven and switched to guitar at fifteen. In 1968, he moved to West Germany, where he completed his high school education and played in rock bands. During his medical studies, Galan performed with various artists, including flamenco guitarist Manolo Lohnes, the fusion group Virgo, and jazz musicians like Wilson de Oliveira and Dom Um Romao. From 1980 to 1986, he collaborated with singer Bill Ramsey, releasing the album Live im Mainzer Unterhaus (1980), which won the German Record Critics' Award. Known for his work on the seven-string guitar, Galan was one of the instrument's earliest exponents in Europe. He formed a duo with bassist Norbert Dömling, releasing Playing For Love (1987). Besides his musical career, Galan practices as an internist, general practitioner, and diabetologist in Mainz.
