Biography

Jully Black is a Canadian singer, songwriter, and actress born Jullyann Inderia Gordon Black on November 8, 1977, in Toronto. She was the youngest of nine children and was raised in a strict Pentecostal household. At age 19, Black signed with Warner/Chappell Music before moving to Universal Music Canada. In 1998, she released the track “Rally'n” with Saukrates. Her debut studio recording, This Is Me, appeared in 2005 and featured the singles “Sweat of Your Brow” and “5x Love”. Her second album, Revival (2007), featured the recording “Seven Day Fool” and received the Juno Award for R&B/Soul Recording of the Year. Black appeared as a correspondent on Canadian Idol and a competitor on The Amazing Race Canada. In 2023, she performed the Canadian national anthem at the NBA All-Star Game, modifying the lyrics to “our home on native land”. Her later discography included Three Rocks and a Slingshot (2022) and the mixtape The LP (2026). She embarked on a national tour in 2025.
