Biography

Touted as Luciano Pavarotti's successor, Peruvian Juan Diego Flórez (b. Lima, 1973) completed his studies at the prestigious Curtis Institute in Philadelphia before appearing on international stages. His breakthrough came in Rossini's little-known opera Matilde di Shabran. Under contract with the Decca label since 2001, the tenor has a penchant for recitals, focusing on 19th-century Italian composers (Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi), which he showcases in Rossini Arias (2003), Una Furtiva Lagrima (2003), Great Tenor Arias (2006), for which he won the ECHO Klassik prize, and Bel Canto Spectacular (2008). Her repertoire also includes popular Latin arias in the recitals Sentimento Latino (2006) and Italia (2015), and an anthology of sacred music in Santo: Sacred Songs (2010). In 2014, he honored the French lyrical repertoire with the recital L'Amour (2014). A light, versatile lyric tenor with an airy voice, Juan Diego Flórez and his Apollon-like physique seduce the world with his voice and his simplicity.
