Jorge Vidal, born Orlando Vidal, was an Argentine tango singer and composer born on August 12, 1924, in Buenos Aires. He studied singing and guitar at the Conservatorio Marini during his youth. After winning a 1945 contest at the Teatro Smart, he debuted professionally in 1946 alongside Luis Peralta at the La Paz confiterÃa. Vidal joined Osvaldo Puglieseâs orchestra in 1949, recording eight tracks for the Odeon labelâincluding âPuente Alsinaââbefore beginning a solo career in 1951. He achieved international recognition, appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show and performing at venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Waldorf-Astoria in New York. His career also included acting, notably in the film El Tango en ParÃs (1956). In 1986, he founded the Asociación Argentina de Cantantes and was later named a Ciudadano Ilustre de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires. Vidal died in Buenos Aires on September 14, 2010.
