Biography
American house and R&B trio, Jomanda was formed in New Jersey in 1988 by singers Joanne Thomas aka Yavahn, Renee Washington and Cheri Williams. They hit the charts at the turn of the 1990s with the hits "Make My Body Rock (Feel It)" (#6 on the US dance charts and #44 in the UK in 1988), "Don't You Want My Love" (#10 on the dance charts in 1989), "Got a Love for You" (#1 on the dance charts and #40 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1991), included on the debut album Someone to Love Me, released in 1990 by Big Beat/Atlantic. It also includes the single "The True Meaning of Love" (No. 7 on the dance charts in 1992). In 1993, the trio returned to the charts with the album Nubia Soul, featuring the singles "I Like It" (#83 in the U.S. and #67 in the U.K.), "Back to You" and "Never" (#40 in the U.K.), followed in 1994 by "I Cried the Tears" (#15 in the dance charts). In October 2003, Joanne Thomas, who sang for Ruffneck and other artists after Jomanda split up, succumbed to colon cancer.
