Biography

Patricia Daniels aka Adeva (born 1960) is certainly the singer who comes closest to the house diva prototype. Trained in soul music and endowed with a strong, warm voice, she also possesses an androgynous, glamorous physique perfectly suited to this musical universe. Although American, Adeva's first success came with the English label Cooltempo in 1988, with her version of Otis Redding's "Respect ". In 1989, she released what remains her biggest hit: "I Thank You" got the club world dancing. In 1991, " It Should've Been Me" was the number-one dance hit in the USA, and in 1995, she was back with Frankie Knuckles' album Welcome to the Real World, where she sang the main hit. Adeva also looks after her albums. Adeva! (1989) and Love or Lust (1991) are true benchmarks of garage house. Since 1997 and New Direction, Adeva has kept a low profile, but remains as copied and sampled as ever.
