George Kusunoki Miller, known professionally as Joji, was born on 18â¯Septemberâ¯1992 in Kansai, Osaka, Japan, and later became a singer and songwriter. After graduating from the Canadian Academy in Kobe, he moved to the United States, where he studied fine arts at the New York Institute of Technology and began producing music; his early releases under the name Pink Guy and later Joji included the 2017 EP Inâ¯Tongues and the 2018 single "Yeah Right", which entered the Billboard R&B Songs chart. In 2018, Joji signed with 88Rising and released his debut studio album Balladsâ¯1, which peaked at number three on the Billboardâ¯200; the single "Slow Dancing in the Dark" also entered the Hotâ¯100. The 2020 album Nectar matched that chart position, and its track "Sanctuary" achieved similar success. In 2022, the single "Glimpse of Us" reached number eight on the Billboard Hotâ¯100 and topped the Australian chart, preceding the release of Smithereens. Joji embarked on the Pandemonium World Tour in 2023, which was cut short for health reasons. In 2025, he returned with "Pixelated Kisses" under his own label Palace Creek, and in 2026 released Piss in the Wind, preceded by singles "Love You Less" and "Last of a Dying Breed". His work has consistently charted on the Billboardâ¯200 and Hotâ¯100, and his influence spans R&B, tripâhop, and loâfi genres.
