Biography
American rapper Tyler Gregory Okonma, aka Tyler, the Creator, was born on March 6, 1991 in Hawthorne, California. He taught himself to play the piano from the age of 14, while at the same time developing a passion for rap. He made his debut with the OFWGKTA (Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All) collective in 2007, and took part in The Odd Future Tape album (2008). This first recording experience prompted him to release his own mixtape, Bastard, the following year. In 2011, he released his debut studio album Goblin, which reached number five on the Billboard charts and was accompanied by the single "Yonkers " . His second album, Wolf (2013) features numerous collaborations, including "Awkward" and "Slater" with Frank Ocean and "IFHY" with Pharrell Williams. Two years later, Cherry Bomb also welcomed a host of guests, including Lil Wayne and Kanye West on the track "Smuckers". In 2017, the rapper reached number two on the Billboard charts with Flower Boy, which sold almost 1.2 million copies worldwide. Frank Ocean appears again, on the track "Where This Flowers Blooms", among other guests like A$AP Rocky, Jaden Smith and Estelle. In 2019, his fifth album, Igor, took him to the top of the Billboard 200 for the first time, a feat reiterated by Call Me If You Get Lost (2021), an album of alternative rap with many pop, jazz, reggae and soul influences. It features Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Wayne and Lil Uzi Vert. With two Grammy Awards for Best Rap Album under his belt, Tyler, the Creator released an expanded version of his latest opus in 2023 with Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale, featuring eight bonus tracks. In 2024, under a new masked guise, he returns with the acclaimed and varied Chromakopia, whose guest list includes Lil Wayne, GloRilla and Sexxy Red, SchoolBoy Q, Daniel Caesar, Santigold and Teezo Touchdown, Lola Young, Doechii, Willow, Steve Lacy and Childish Gambino. This forward-looking opus also proves a commercial success, topping the charts in the U.S. and the U.K. Less than a year later, in July 2025, the still eclectic Don't Tap the Glass followed, consistently topping the Billboard 200 (#2 in the UK). In addition to the lead single "Ring Ring Ring", the album features contributions from Pharrell Williams (also under the alias Sk8brd), Madison McFerrin and Yebba.
