Biography

John Wesley is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter who was born in 1962. He began his professional music career in the early 1980s in the Tampa Bay area. In 1991, Wesley founded the band Autodrive with drummer and producer Mark Prator before embarking on a solo career the following year. He served as the opening act for Marillion on several world tours and collaborated with artists including Mike Tramp and Fish. Wesley was a primary co-writer for the Fish album Fellini Days (2001). Between 2002 and 2010, Wesley performed as a touring guitarist and backing vocalist for the progressive rock band Porcupine Tree. He appeared on several of their recordings, including In Absentia (2002), Fear of a Blank Planet (2007), and The Incident (2009). His solo discography includes the albums Under the Red and White Sky (1994), The Emperor Falls (1998), and Shiver (2005). The latter recording was co-produced by Prator and mixed by Steven Wilson. Wesley's later solo works include the EP The Lilypad Suite (2011) and the studio albums Disconnect (2014), featuring a guest appearance by Alex Lifeson, and A Way You'll Never Be (2016). In 2021, he began performing as a guitarist and backing vocalist for the band Vertical Horizon.
