Biography

John Louis Hansen, known professionally as John Mogensen, was born on May 5, 1928, in Denmark. He began his music career as a member of the vocal quartet Four Jacks & a Jill from 1956 to 1963. While still part of the group, Mogensen gained popularity as a songwriter and launched a solo career in 1971 with the album John Mogensen. Known for his rough voice and direct language, Mogensen's music often addressed societal issues and pub culture. His songs "Der er noget galt i Danmark" and "Fut i fejemøget" remain popular. Mogensen passed away on April 10, 1977. Posthumously, he became a cult figure among his followers, with several of his songs reissued and a musical based on his life performed for years. A biographical movie titled The Way to Mandalay was released in 2018.
