Biography

Joel Ross, born in 1995 in Chicago, Illinois, is an American vibraphonist and composer who began playing drums in his father’s church before switching to xylophone in middle school. He studied at Chicago High School for the Arts and later at the University of the Pacific, before relocating to New York City in 2015 to attend The New School. Joel Ross signed with Blue Note Records and released his debut album KingMaker in 2019, followed by Who Are You? (2020), The Parable of the Poet (2022), Nublues (2024), and Gospel Music (2026). He earned DownBeat Critics Poll first‑place awards for vibraphone (2019‑2021) and the 2020 Jazz International Edison Award for KingMaker.
