Biography
An actor of international stature, Joaquin Phoenix has taken on hundreds of roles since his debut in the 1980s. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on October 28, 1974, he began his career in TV series alongside his brother River Phoenix, who died in 1993, and his sister Summer Phoenix. Among other major film roles, he appeared in Ridley Scott's Gladiator in 2000 and played the character of Johnny Cash in the country singer's biopic Walk the Line (2005), opposite Reese Witherspoon as June Carter. Nominated for an Oscar for these films, in 2019 he played the lead role in Todd Phillips' Joker, which finally won him the precious trophy. Five years later, he revived his cult role in Joker: Folie à deux (2024), starring Lady Gaga. On this occasion, he performed the songs from the film, mostly pop and jazz standards, on the soundtrack of the same name.
