Biography

Although best known as the lead singer of the American hard rock band Jackyl, Jesse James Dupree has also enjoyed success as a solo artist, even charting a Top 40 hit in 2024 at 61 years old. He was born on September 22, 1962, in Kennesaw, Georgia. Jackyl formed in 1991 and released the self-titled debut album Jackyl one year later. While touring in support of the record, Dupree famously wielded a chainsaw during performances of "The Lumberjack," a hair metal single that reached number 24 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Jackyl went platinum in the US and became the band's best-selling album, even though the title track from the band's follow-up record, Push Comes to Shove, fared better on the singles chart. Although he continued to play with the band, Dupree also launched a solo career after nearly a decade with Jackyl, debuting in 2000 with Foot Fetish. The song "Mainline" reached number 34 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. Rev It Up and Go-Go was released in 2008 under the name "Jesse James Dupree & Dixie Inc," and Dupree returned in 2023 with another record, Breathing Fire. One year later, "Stranded" reached number 37 on the Mainstream Rock chart.
