Biography
Black Label Society, formed in Los Angeles, California, was founded in 1998 by guitarist and vocalist Zakk Wylde, who had previously played with Ozzyâ¯Osbourne. Wylde assembled a lineâup that included bassist Jamesâ¯DeServio, drummer Philâ¯Ondich, and guitarist Nickâ¯Catanese, and the band issued its debut studio album Sonicâ¯Brew on 28â¯Octoberâ¯1998, later reâreleased in North America on 4â¯Mayâ¯1999 after a remix. The group followed with Strongerâ¯thanâ¯Death (2000), 1919â¯Eternal (2002), Theâ¯Blessedâ¯Hellride (2003), Hangoverâ¯Musicâ¯Vol.â¯VI (2004), Mafia (2005), and Shotâ¯toâ¯Hell (2006) under Roadrunner Records, each expanding its heavyâmetal catalogue. In 2010, Orderâ¯ofâ¯theâ¯Black was released, reaching numberâ¯4 on the Billboardâ¯200 and selling 45â¯000 copies in the first week. Subsequent releases include Catacombsâ¯ofâ¯theâ¯Blackâ¯Vatican (2014), Grimmestâ¯Hits (2018), Doomâ¯Crewâ¯Inc. (2021), and Enginesâ¯ofâ¯Demolition (2026). The band has maintained a consistent touring presence, collaborated with artists such as Ozzyâ¯Osbourne and Robertâ¯Trujillo, and achieved chart success without receiving formal awards, solidifying its place in contemporary metal history.
