Biography

Born in Nîmes (Gard) on January 2, 1989, Laurent Coulondre started out playing drums before turning to the piano. His discovery of jazz led him to join the Big Band de Petite Camargue, with whom he discovered the stage, and then the Jime & Cies ensemble. After studying music in Vauvert and Toulouse, he continued his training at the Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya in Barcelona, where he played the Hammond organ. Based in Paris, he formed the Laurent Coulondre Trio, which recorded the albums Opus I (2012), Opus II (2014) and Schizophrenia (2015), alongside encounters and collaborations with Sylvain Del Campo, Nicolas Folmer, Sylvain Beuf, Stéphane Huchard and singer Agathe Iracema's Agathe Jazz Quartet, with whom he recorded two albums. Winner of a Victoire du jazz award in the revelation category in 2016, Laurent Coulondre recorded the album Gravity Zerø (2017), featuring drummers André Ceccarelli, Yoann Serra, Cyril Atef and Martin Wangermée, then paid tribute to Michel Petrucciani in Michel on My Mind (2019), crowned by the Académie du Jazz and a new Victoire du jazz award in the instrumental soloist category. A professor at the École supérieure de musique de Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, his 2022 album Meva Festa has Latin resonances.
