Biography
A trumpeter, buglist and arranger, Airelle Besson (born in Paris on March 23, 1978) turned to jazz after parallel studies of classical violin. From conservatory to musicology studies, she trained to become a professional musician, winning the Concours international de La Défense in 2003 with the Rockingchair quintet. Two albums followed: Premier (2007) and 1:1 (2011), while the trumpeter collaborated with Magic Malik, Lo'Jo, Ãdouard Ferlet, Ornette, Hugh Coltman, Riccardo Del Fra and Metronomy, winning the Djangodor for "new talent" in 2008. Signed by the Naïve label, she recorded the duo album Prélude (2014) with Brazilian guitarist Nelson Veras, which won the Académie du jazz's Django-Reinhardt award for musician of the year and the Victoires du jazz's Prix Frank Ténot for French instrumental revelation of the year. Her first album as leader with Benjamin Moussay and Fabrice Moreau, Radio One (2016) includes the participation of singer Isabel Sörling. The following year marks his move to Alpha Classics for Aïrès, featuring original tracks and covers of classical pieces in a trio with Ãdouard Ferlet and Stéphane Kerecki. In 2021, the Radio One trio reunited for Try! the first recording on his own Papillon Jaune label, followed in 2024 by Surprise! with German musicians Sebastian Sternal and Jonas Burgwinkel, who had already joined him for a session in 2017.
