Jenny Owen Youngs, born on November 22, 1981, in Newton, New Jersey, is an American singer-songwriter. She began her musical journey playing various instruments in school before learning the guitar at age 14. Her first album, Batten the Hatches, was self-released in 2005 and gained traction after her song "Fuck Was I" appeared on Showtime's Weeds. This led to a contract with Nettwerk Records, who re-released the album in 2007. Her subsequent albums include Transmitter Failure (2009) and An Unwavering Band of Light (2012). She has collaborated with notable artists such as Panic! at the Disco and Shungudzo. Her songs have been featured in various TV shows, including Weeds and Grey's Anatomy. She has toured extensively, supporting artists like Regina Spektor and Frank Turner. In 2024, she released the album OFFAIR: From the Forest Floor.
