Biography

Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlyn, born September 17, 1974, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is an American singer‑songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist whose early exposure to Motown, soul, and folk music laid the groundwork for a career that began in Olympia, Washington, in the early 1990s. After teaching herself guitar at Evergreen State College, she released the Storageland EP in 1997, followed by Parts of Human Desire in 1999, establishing her lo‑fi indie pop style. Her debut full‑length You Think It's Like This but Really It's Like This (2000) on K Records received critical acclaim and positioned her within the K Records renaissance. Subsequent releases-Advisory Committee (2002), C'mon Miracle (2004), and (a)spera (2009)-continued to garner positive reviews, with (a)spera reaching Number 46 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. Collaborations with Phil Elverum, Thao Nguyen, and Jherek Bischoff produced the joint album Thao + Mirah (2011), which peaked at Number 7 on the Heatseekers chart. In 2014 she released Changing Light, and in 2018 Understanding further expanded her discography. Her 2026 album Dedication was released on February 20, 2026, marking a continued presence in the indie rock and pop‑rock scenes.
