Jeffery Straker, a Canadian folk/roots singer-songwriter, was raised on a grain farm near Punnichy, Saskatchewan. His piano-based musical style drew comparisons to artists such as Kris Kristofferson and Rufus Wainwright. Straker independently released his debut folk-pop album, Songs from Highway 15, in 2006, followed by Step Right Up in 2008. The latter included the singles "Hypnotized" and "Somewhere Between". In 2014, he achieved international recognition by winning the international category of the 55th Vina del Mar International Song Festival in Chile with the song "Hypnotized". His 2015 album, North Star Falling, reached the top 10 of the iTunes singer-songwriter charts. Straker remained prolific, released albums such as Dirt Road Confessional (2017) and Just Before Sunrise (2021). He was named Roots/Folk Artist of the Year at the Saskatchewan Music Awards in 2020 and 2021. In 2025, Straker won Contemporary Singer of the Year at the 20th Canadian Folk Music Awards for his 2024 album Great Big Sky.
