Biography

Henry Ate is a South African musical group formed in 1996, when guitarist Julian Sun invited Karma-Ann Swanepoel from the audience to sing during a music festival performance with his band Urban Creep. This impromptu collaboration led to the formation of Henry Ate, with Swanepoel as lead singer and Sun contributing songwriting, backing vocals, and acoustics. The group released their debut album Slap In The Face in 1996 on Tic Tic Bang, featuring notable tracks such as "Jesus Made Me" and "Hey Mister". Their subsequent albums included One Day Soon (1998) under Primedia Record Company and Torn and Tattered (2000) with EMI. After a hiatus of over two decades, Henry Ate released a single in 2024 titled "You Were My First Everything".
