Wesley Stace was born on October 22, 1965 in Hastings, East Sussex, England, and is known for his music career under the stage name John Wesley Harding. He began playing guitar as a child and started writing songs as a teenager. His musical breakthrough came when he gained attention opening for John Hiatt, after which Demon Records released his live album It Happened One Night in 1988. He later signed with Sire Records and released Here Comes The Groom (1990), followed by critically acclaimed albums, including The Name Above the Title (1991) and Why We Fight (1992). He toured with Bruce Springsteen before taking a hiatus from music in the mid-2000s. Under his real name, he has published four novels, including Misfortune in 2005, which was shortlisted for the Commonwealth Writers Prize.
