Biography

Jan Gunnar Hoff is a Norwegian jazz pianist who has won international acclaim for his compositions, performances and recordings with other artists including the Hoff Ensemble. Born in central Norway, he trained in classical music but pursued a career in jazz with several albums including his 2018 release 'Polarity' which features Anders Jormin on bass and Audun Kleive on drums. Other albums include 'Jungle City' (2009), 'Acuña-Hoff-Mathisen Trio in Concert' (2011) and 'Barxeta' (2012) with bassist Per Mathisen and drummer Alex Acuña. The Hoff Ensemble recording 'Quiet Winter Night' earned a Grammy nomination for Best Surround Sound Album for Norwegian sound engineer Morten Lindberg. In 2018, Hoff announced another collaboration with guitarist Mike Stern following their album 'Magma' in 2008. The appeared in Norway in March with Mathisen and Kleive and said another recording together is in the works.
