James Gordon MacArthur, born December 8,  1937 , was an American actor and recording artist born in Los Angeles, California. Raised in Nyack, New York, he began performing in school productions before entering the entertainment industry, where he gained early recognition for supporting roles in film and television. James Gordon MacArthur’s musical breakthrough came in 1963 when his spoken‑word recording The Ten Commandments of Love entered the Billboard Hot  100, peaking at number 94, and he released the single "The Story of The In‑Between Years", which also charted modestly. Throughout the 1960s, James Gordon MacArthur issued several singles under various labels, though none achieved significant commercial impact beyond the The Ten Commandments of Love entry. His career remained primarily focused on acting, with appearances on Hawaii Five‑O and a brief return to the stage in the 1980s and 1990s.
