Biography

Jackiem Joyner, born February 9, 1980, in Norfolk, Virginia, is a smooth jazz saxophonist and flutist. Raised by his mother in a single-parent home, Joyner began playing saxophone under music teacher Lou Adams while attending Fowler High School in Syracuse, New York. He won the NAACP's ACT-SO state competition three years in a row in three different categories: instrumental contemporary, composition, and classical music. He independently released his debut album This Time Around (2005) before signing with Artizen Music Group, which released his second album BabySoul (2007). The single "Stay With Me Tonight" from this album featured guitarist Peter White and reached number 17 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart. Joyner later recorded for Mack Avenue after it acquired Artizen. His singles "I'm Waiting for You" and "Take Me There" both reached Number 1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart, with the former nominated for Song of the Year at the American Smooth Jazz Awards in 2010.
