Biography
Originally discovered and subsequently mentored by Japanese keyboard player Keiko Matsui, Denver-born Paul Taylor started playing saxophone at the age of seven. After Matsui saw Taylor performing at the Catalina Jazz festival, she hired him for her band and he spent the next two years touring with her before releasing his debut album in 1995 titled On The Horn. The album was produced by Matsui's husband Kazu and broke into the jazz charts after the single 'Til We Meet Again became a popular radio hit. Taylor's melodic jazz style with a romantic vibe has built up a following amongst lovers of smooth jazz and R&B. Guest appearances with California-based contemporary jazz specialists The Rippingtons broadened Taylor's appeal to a wider audience helping sales of his solo recordings. His fourth album, Ladies Choice was released in 2007 and featured R&B divas LaToya London, Regina Belle and Terry Dexter on vocals. It proved to be a winning combination and brought Taylor his first number one album in the Contemporary Jazz Charts. With a career spanning more than 20 years and 13 successful albums to his name, Taylor is now now a firmly established player in the jazz and R&B genre.
