Biography
Grammy Award-winning smooth jazz exponent Norman Brown hails from Kansas City, Missouri and discovered his love of music at the age of eight through playing his brother's acoustic guitar. His debut album 'Just Between Us' was a leap of faith by Mo Jazz (the jazz subsidiary of Motown) who arranged some big name collaborators to augment Brown's playing and drafted in Boyz II Men, Stevie Wonder and Kenneth H. Williams to add some musical gravitas to the album. The record achieved moderate success but it wasn't until Brown's second album 'After the Storm' that the jazz critics started to sit up and take notice.
A move to Warner Bros in 1999 gave Brown big label backing and his second album for the label titled 'Just Chillin'', released in 2003, brought in the coveted Grammy Award which he won in conjunction with producer Paul Brown. In parallel to his solo career, in 2002 Brown formed the trio BWB with saxophonist Kirk Whalum and horn player Rick Braun and the trio have released three albums. In 2007 Brown released 'Stay With Me', his seventh solo album, and the single lifted off the album 'Lets Take a Ride' which was a playlist favourite on the smooth jazz radio channels reulting in Brown's first number one hit.
