Yvonne Ann Burgess, known by the stage name Jackie Trent, was born on 6 September 1940 in Newcastle-under-Lyme, England. She started her career at a young age, making her first stage appearance at eight. By eleven, she had assumed the stage name Jackie Trent. Her first single, "Pick Up the Pieces", was released in 1962 via the Oriole label. In 1965, she signed with Pye Records and scored a breakthrough hit with "Where Are You Now", co-written with Tony Hatch. The song topped the UK Singles Chart for one week in May 1965 and reached number three in Canada. Throughout the 1960s, she collaborated extensively with Tony Hatch, writing hits for Petula Clark, including "I Couldn't Live Without Your Love" in 1966. Their duet "The Two Of Us" topped the Australian charts, resulting in the nickname "Mr & Mrs Music." In addition to their work with Petula Clark, Jackie Trent and Tony Hatch wrote songs for various artists. Jackie Trent's recording career lasted from 1962 to 1990, logging a total of 12 albums, five compilations, and 51 singles. In the 1980s, Jackie Trent and Tony Hatch wrote the theme song for the Australian soap opera Neighbours, which became iconic. After returning to the UK, Jackie Trent continued touring and performing until her death on 21 March 2015.
