Jan Peter Schwalm, born in 1970 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, is a composer and music producer known for his work in electronic music, film, theater, ballet, and contemporary music. He studied percussion at the Frankfurter Musikwerkstatt from 1989 to 1991 and founded the experimental electro-jazz project Slop Shop in 1993, releasing early works on Infracom. His first CD, Makrodelia, gained attention from musicians like Brian Eno, Peter Kruder, and Ryuichi Sakamoto, leading to collaborations with Eno that resulted in the joint albums "Music for Onmyo-ji" (2000) and "Drawn from Life" (2001) and a subsequent tour in 2002. Schwalm also contributed to the film score for Nicolas Winding Refn's Fear X (2003). In 2006, he released his first solo album, Musikain, featuring guest vocals from Brian Eno, Imogen Heap, and Kari Kleiv. Notable awards include the Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik for his collaborations with Arve Aarset, Markus Reuter, and others.
