Nine Horses were an art-rock collaborative project that brought together the distinct yet complementary creative forces of David Sylvian, Steve Jansen, and Burnt Friedman. Emerging in the mid-2000s, the trio forged a sound that blurs the lines between alternative rock, jazz, electronic, and experimental popâcrafting music that is as emotionally resonant as it is sonically adventurousheir 2005 debut album, Snow Borne Sorrow, remains the projectâs defining statementâa brooding, elegant, and richly produced record that delves into themes of existential doubt, personal loss, and societal decay. Melding David Sylvianâs emotive baritone with electronic textures, live instrumentation, and jazz-tinged arrangements, the album is both sonically meticulous and emotionally raw. It features contributions from a range of acclaimed musicians, including trumpeter Arve Henriksen and guitarist Tim Motzer, further expanding its atmospheric palette. They put out a second release in 2006, Money For All, before disbanding the following year.
