Biography

Huevos Rancheros, a Canadian surf rock band from Calgary, Alberta, formed in 1990 with guitarist Brent J. Cooper, bassist Graham Evans, and drummer Richie Lazarowich. The group initially released the six-song EP Huevosaurus independently in 1990 before signing to Estrus Records for their second EP, Rocket to Nowhere (1991). In 1993, they released their debut full-length album, Endsville!, under C/Z Records. By 1995, the band had signed with Mint Records and released several albums including Dig In! (1995) and Longo Weekendo Fiesta (1995). The same year, Evans left the band and was replaced by Tom Kennedy. Their 1996 album, Get Outta Dodge, received a Juno Award nomination for Best Alternative Album. After touring in Europe with Duotang, Huevos Rancheros released their final album, Muerte Del Toro (2000), before disbanding shortly thereafter. The band has performed occasional reunion shows to raise funds for a journalism scholarship named after former Calgary Herald music critic James Muretich.
