Biography

The Mandopop singer Huang Xiaoyun was born on December 22, 1998, in Longping Town, China. Raised by Bouyei parents, she began singing as a toddler and quickly grew into a multi-instrumentalist, playing drums, piano, and guzheng. Huang Xiaoyun was still a teenager when she auditioned for The Voice of China's final season in 2015, advancing to the television show's Top 16 round before being eliminated from the competition. She released her debut single, "Campaign" two years later, combining her musical training as a bel canto soprano with modern influences like pop and rap. The follow-up single "Can We Still Love" was released on December 31, 2017. Beginning with 2018's "Open," Huang Xiaoyun began focusing on music that not only highlighted her considerable vocal power, but also showcased her songwriting abilities. She continued making TV appearances in China, too, participating in singing competitions like Sound Of My Dream, Singer 2020, and The Treasured Voice. Released in 2021, the power ballad "Stars and Sea" became her biggest hit to date, peaking at number 6 in Singapore, number 7 in Hong Kong, and number 13 in China. Huang released her debut solo EP titled Huang Xiaoyun's Neverland on November 16, 2023. A year later, on November 15, 2024, she followed up with another album called Wordless Season.
