Howard Victor Carpendale (born January 14, 1946 in Durban, South Africa) is a pop singer and composer from Germany with South African roots. Howard Carpendale took his first musical steps in the mid-1960s as a beat singer in South Africa. He came to Europe in 1966 and later to Germany. Howard Carpendale celebrated his first success in 1968 with the German Beatles cover "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" from the album Ich Geb Mir Selbst 'ne Party. The singer enjoyed his most successful period in the 1970s and 1980s. His biggest hits fall into this phase: "Das Schöne Mädchen Von Seite 1" (1970 from album no. 1), "Deine Spuren Im Sand" (1975 from the album ... und ich warte auf ein Zeichen), "Fremde Oder Freunde" (1976 from the album Fremde Oder Freunde), "Tür An Tür mit Alice" (1977 from the album Howard Carpendale '77), "Ti Amo" (1977 from the album Jede Farbe Ist Schön), "Nachts, Wenn Alles Schläft" (1979 from the album Mein Weg Zu Dir), "Hello Again" (1984 from the album Hello Again) and "Laura Jane" (1987 from the album Carpendale). In the 1990s, things became quieter around Howard Carpendale. In 2003, he retired from the music business. It also became known that the singer was suffering from multiple sclerosis. In 2007, Howard Carpendale celebrated his comeback with the album 20 Uhr 10. In 2019, the singer released the album Symphonie meines Lebens, a compilation of his greatest hits, recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The follow-up Symphonie meines Lebens 2 was released in 2020, followed a year later by the Christmas album Happy Christmas, also recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Six years after his last studio album, Howard Carpendale released a new album, Let's Do It Again, in 2023. The album climbs to number 2 in Germany and Austria. The compilation Zeitlos is released in February 2026. The album reaches the top of the charts in Germany and number 3 in both Austria and Switzerland.
