Biography

House of Shem is a roots reggae band from New Zealand, formed by Carl Perkins and his two sons, Te Omeka Perkins and Isaiah Perkins. Their debut album, Keep Rising, was unveiled in May 2008 in New Zealand, with the band releasing it in Australia and Hawaii the following year. Collaborating with Grammy-winning engineer Errol Brown, their sophomore album Island Vibration, released on February 14, 2011, made history as the first reggae album in New Zealand to debut at Number 1. In 2013, they released their third record, Harmony which peaked at number 24, as well as a string of non-album tracks including "She’s Mine" (2014), "Jah Love" (2016), "Anything You Ask For" (2017), and "Peace & Love" (2017). After Carl Perkins passed away in 2018 from bowel cancer, the brothers went on tour in honour of their father, releasing tracks “Overtime” (2019) and “Te Whetu Marama” (2021), followed by “Place to Be” (2022) and “Higher” (2023). They returned in January, 2024 with a cover of the Creedence Clearwater Revival hit “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” which climbed to number 18 on the New Zealand charts.
