Biography

Hard rock band House of Lords was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1987 by keyboardist Gregg Giuffria, formerly of ‘70s hard rockers Angel and ‘80s AOR band Giuffria. The genesis of House of Lords began when the group Giuffria began to shop demos in hopes of getting a record deal and then recording their third album. KISS member Gene Simmons agreed to sign the band to his label but requested that the group change their name to House of Lords and replace their vocalist, David Glen Eisley. Gregg Giuffria acquiesced to Simmons’ requests and brought in vocalist James Christian, who joined Giuffria, Lanny Cordola (guitars), Chuck Wright (bass), and Ken Mary (drums) in this new hard rock project. House of Lords released their self-titled debut album in 1988, which was a commercial success and reached number 78 on the Billboard 200. The band returned in 1990 with Sahara, but left Simmons Records and signed with PolyGram by the time they released their third album, Demons Down, in 1992. By this time, the only members remaining from the original line-up was Giuffria and vocalist James Christian. The popularity of grunge music made hard rock and AOR bands commercially irrelevant and House of Lords split up in 1993. James Christian and Gregg Giuffria reunited House of Lords in 2000 with various past members of the band and but by the time they recorded the album The Power and the Myth in 2002, Giuffria had left. The 2002 album remained unreleased until hard rock / AOR label Frontiers Records issued it in 2004. James Christian continued to lead House of Lords through a series of albums on the Frontiers label including World Upside Down (2006), Come to My Kingdom (2008), Cartesian Dreams (2009), Big Money (2011), Precious Metal (2014), Indestructible (2015), Saint of the Lost Souls (2017), New World – New Eyes (2020), Saints & Sinners (2022), and Full Tilt Overdrive (2024).
