Biography
Japanese pop singer-songwriter and actor Hideaki Tokunaga was born on February 27, 1961, in Yanagawa, Fukuoka. His musical career began in 1986 with the release of his debut album Girl and the single "Rainy Blue." By 1987, his third album, Birds, had topped the Japanese Oricon charts, solidifying his presence in the late-1980s J-pop scene. Throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, Hideaki Tokunaga released several hit songs, including "Yume o Shinjite" and "Kowarekake no Radio." In 1989, his song "Saigo no Iiwake" gained popularity in the Philippines, spawning multiple cover versions. His single "Wednesday Moon" reached the number 1 spot on the Oricon charts in 1991. Over the next decades, Hideaki Tokunaga released important albums such as TaiyÅ no ShÅnen (1995), Honesto (1999), and Ai wo Kudasai (2003). In 2005, he began the Vocalist album series, covering songs by female artists. Vocalist (2005), Vocalist 2 (2006), and Vocalist 3 (2007) all achieved commercial success, with the first and third albums being certified Million by the RIAJ. He made history as the first male artist to have albums reach number 1 on the Japanese Oricon charts across four decades (1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s). He also composed songs for other artists such as KinKi Kids' "Eien Ni." 2024 saw the release of CONCERT TOUR 2023 ALL BEST 2, a live concert featuring songs from across Hideaki Tokunaga's storied career.
