Biography

Hey Ocean! is a Canadian indie alternative rock and synthpop band formed in 2004 in Vancouver by Ashleigh Ball, David Beckingham, and David Vertesi. Their debut EP Triceratops was released in 2004, followed by their first full-length album Stop Looking Like Music in 2006. The band gained attention with their second album, It's Easier to Be Somebody Else, released in 2008. Hey Ocean! toured extensively and signed with Universal Music Canada in 2011, releasing the EP Big Blue Wave. Their third studio album, IS, was released in 2012, featuring the single "Make a New Dance Up". The band's fourth album, The Hurt of Happiness, was released in 2018. Hey Ocean! has been nominated for awards such as the Western Canadian Music Award and the Juno Awards, with their music featured in various television shows like One Tree Hill and Switched at Birth.
